Between the Lines

Project Statement

What does the artist want to express through their work? Between the Lines attempts to close the gap between the ambiguous nature of art and the multitude of possible interpretations. This work allows viewers to take a moment, center, and explore the intimate nature of what it means to connect not only with art, but with the person represented through the work itself. If images could talk, what would they say?

The self-portraits in Between the Lines physically manifests the story and thoughts behind the images onto the photographs and shares an insight that would otherwise be convoluted and misunderstood without context as to what the image itself is about.

This series was installed in Gallery Five at San José State University in 2020.

    Fear

    3′ x 4′

I am afraid of what I might do. There are times that I'm afraid of myself and what I could do. Afraid of being a failure, being a burden, being a black hole taking away joy from others.

    My Story

    3′ x 4′

This is who I am. I am my own story, I am a dreamer, an artist, a story teller. I am the story of my mother, who I am forever grateful and proud of for her strength and preserverience. I am a part of a community and connect with others and want to share their stories.

    Inspiration

This is my inspiration, my looking forward and facing whatever comes next. This is me taking step after step and continuing to grow with the world around me.

If you can, please support me by buying me a coffee!
